The Red Lip Truth

Updated: Jan 4, 2021

A classic outfit is a little black dress, pearls, and red lipstick. By the meaning of classic, this is an outfit that can be worn at any age and for every occasion. The thing about this classic look is that there’s beauty in its simplicity, and there’s elegance in simplicity. It’s also an easy, basic peace to put together. There’s something powerful about a woman in black with red lips. It’s a bold statement. The quote “add more lipstick and attack” comes to mind when thinking about the impact red lips can have on the person wearing it and the influence it has on those she comes into contact with.

I often view life through the eyes of fashion. Fashion and style can say so much about a person without them having to speak at all. Fashion is a form of communication. It’s a tool we can use to tell the world who we are without them having to make assumptions. What does your style say about you? Nonverbal communication, how you look and act, is the first impression everyone gets of who you are. This is why fashion is so much more important than what most people think. Fashion tells people who you are, what you think about yourself, who you want to be, and how you want others to view you, too.

We know fashion is important. We know it’s a reflection of what we think about ourselves. Let’s think about who we are in Christ. If we are in Christ then we are called to reflect His image. This also includes our nonverbal behavior of how we look and how we act. We should dress in a way that honors Christ by honoring our bodies that He provided for us. We should also take who He calls us to be and use that in how we act. In Christ alone, we are called to live boldly! We are called to be more than conquerors! We are called to be red lipstick!

What does red lipstick do? Red lipstick does not blend. Red lipstick stands out among the crowd. Red lipstick draws attention. People want to be around red lipstick. People want more red lipstick. We should live the same way! When you put red lipstick on, it’s an automatic confidence booster. Personally, when I put red lipstick on, it reminds me that I am “more than a conqueror” because I feel like I can take on anything and be successful. (Romans 8:37) When I am going in for an interview, I always wear red lipstick. First of all, it automatically makes me look more confident to the person I’m being interviewed by. Secondly, if I was not initially feeling too confident, I definitely feel it by the time I finish putting it on.

There are some issues and concerns with red lipstick. What if it bleeds into the rest of my makeup? What if I accidentally get it on my clothing? What if I hug someone and accidentally get red lipstick on their clothing? What if it begins to fade away? Stop with the ‘what ifs…’! Yes, life happens. Sometimes sin tempts you to do something that does not align with God’s plan. Sometimes, we are easily influenced by others and the red lipstick fades or comes off somehow. What do you do? You reapply the lipstick! Continue to be bold. Continue to live boldly for Christ! He’s already forgiven you for the red lipstick fading. God never runs low on supply. Go to Him, spend time with Him, and He will give you the red lipstick. Red lipstick can change your day, just like Jesus can change your life. When you live boldly for Him, He will miraculously change your life and the people around you. Wear your red lipstick for Christ, and live boldly for Him.
